Puffin is the tritagonist and a bird from The Swan Princess. He is Odette, Derek, Jean-Bob and Speed's friend.
He is one of a few characters that are the craftiest. He is the most devoted of all birds. He is strict in military arts, he hates spies, he does not like Jean-Bob's lack of enthusiasm about doing dangerous things and he does not want to feel helpless when helping Odette in trouble. He came all the way from Ireland.
The Swan Princess[]
In the first movie of the Swan Princess, he was shot by someone and he had an arrow in his left wing and he fell down from the sky. Odette, Jean-Bob, and Speed took care of his wounded wing and Odette broke a piece of cloth from her dress and she wrapped it around his broken wing. Puffin came back to himself thanks to Jean-Bob and he became friends with the three of them.
Puffin learned about Odette's spell in which she was forced to be a swan during the day and he learned how she could only become a human again at night if she was on the lake in the light of the moon. Rothbart forces her to marry him night after night but she refuses to marry him, since she does not want to marry him since she is only in love with Derek her friend from her childhood and she has fallen in love with him.
The three friends help Odette find Derek and they lead him back to Swan Lake where Odette becomes a human again.
So Puffin and Odette set off in search of Derek. Upon entering the forest, Derek saw Odette. Everyone thought Odette was dead after her accident, but Derek was the only one who said he thought she was still alive somewhere. He vowed to find her.
Derek saw her in the form of a swan believing she was the great animal and he tried to kill her. Puffin distracted Derek and he flew back to Swan Lake with Odette. Derek followed them to the lake. Soon the sun was falling behind the horizon, and Odette had to return to the lake to become human again.
At first, she panicked because she thought that Derek would kill her. But Puffin told Odette to risk going out onto the lake because if she didn't, she would have lost her chance for life. Everything would have been in vain and Odette would probably never have a chance like that again.
Odette knew that Puffin was right so she gathered all her courage and flew towards the surface of the lake but clouds covered the moon and Odette could not transform.
Puffin had to keep Derek from killing her and he distracted Derek, but then, the moon appeared and Odette could finally become human.
The two lovers hugged happily. But the happiness did not last long since Odette could hear Rothbart approaching.
Derek is willing to face Rothbart but Odette explained to Derek about her spell and that it was dangerous for him to stay. She said the only way it could be broken was if Derek made a vow of everlasting love to her that was proven to the world. Derek wanted to do it more than anything, but Odette said he had to leave for the time being because Rothbart was coming and she did not want him to find Derek or else something bad might happen to him.
But Rothbart overheard their conversation and he imprisoned Odette in the well so she could not leave so that Derek would not be able to make his vow of everlasting love to her. But if Derek accidentally made a vow of everlasting love to someone other than Odette, Odette would die, so Rothbart planned to send his hag sidekick Bridget to the ball disguised as Odette so that Derek would accidentally make his vow of everlasting love to her, thinking she was Odette so that the real Odette would die. He imprisoned the real Odette in a well so she could not warn Derek about Rothbart's plan. Puffin, Jean-Bob, and Speed had to make a plan so that Odette could be free so she could warn Derek.
The three friends managed to free Odette after a fight of life or death after beating the crocodiles. But Odette was too late because Rothbart had already sent Bridget to the ball disguised as Odette so that Derek would accidentally make a vow of everlasting love to her. If that happened, Odette would die. Odette was desperate because she could not find a way to enter the castle to warn Derek. Derek made a mistake by making the vow of everlasting love to the fake Odette and the real Odette died.
Puffin, Jean-Bob and Speed were very worried because they saw Odette heading toward Swan Lake, flying weakly. She touched the surface of the lake with her wings and then she collapsed on the ground.
Derek arrived at the lake and when he saw Odette on the ground, he picked her up in his arms sobbing. But Odette was still alive but not for long. Derek is completely sorry for his big mistake but Odette just didn't have the strength and she stroked his cheek sweetly and she said "I love you Derek." and she died in his arms. Derek and Rothbart fought each other. But Rothbart was too strong and violent.
Derek could barely win. The 3 friends remembered Derek's bow that Rothbart had thrown to the bottom of the lake. Puffin threw Jean-Bob into the lake to retrieve the bow. Derek retrieved his bow but his arrows had been forgotten. But luckily, Bromley, his childhood friend, sent him one of his arrows. Thanks to Bromley, Derek could defeat the evil wizard once and for all.
Everything was back to normal. Rothbart had been defeated. Puffin, Jean-Bob, and Speed are very happy, but they had to be quiet when they heard that Derek had Odette in his arms crying. Derek confessed his feelings to Odette saying he loved her for her kindness and courage, kissing her on the forehead. Odette comes back to life and Derek and Odette are finally together forever.
Soon, Odette and Derek were married. At nightfall, Odette and Derek stopped at a bridge and Odette asks Derek if he will love her till the day she dies. And Derek answered: Much longer than that Odette. Much longer.
